community.crypto 3.5.1 Released - OpenSSH ML-DSA-44 Keypair Fix

Introduction

community.crypto is the Ansible collection that provides modules and plugins for managing X.509 certificates, OpenSSL and OpenSSH keys, ACME certificates, and other cryptographic material. Version 3.5.1 has been published to Ansible Galaxy as a bugfix release on top of 3.5.0.

What Changed From 3.5.0

This release contains a single, targeted fix and no new features. The previous version, 3.5.0, shipped with an invalid value for the type option of the openssh_keypair module when generating OpenSSH ML-DSA-44 keys. That value, mldsa44, is not accepted by ssh-keygen itself, which means playbooks attempting to create this key type against 3.5.0 would fail at the ssh-keygen invocation step.

3.5.1 corrects this by renaming the accepted value to mldsa44-ed25519, matching what ssh-keygen actually expects for this hybrid key type. Aside from this change, the collection is otherwise identical to 3.5.0.

Release Summary

Upgrade Notes

Any playbook or role that was already using type: mldsa44 with openssh_keypair against 3.5.0 must be updated to use type: mldsa44-ed25519 after upgrading to 3.5.1. Users who never used the ML-DSA-44 key type are not affected and can upgrade without any changes to existing playbooks.
